At a glance…

We’re looking for :

  • an iOS Engineer (React Native frontend, graphQL), to help us launch our app
  • Loves working in growing startups (and embraces both the opportunities and challenges)
  • Enjoys remote work
  • Is based in Australia, ideally on the East Coast

Sound like you? Great! We’d love to hear from you!

What is AirRobe?

We’re growing here at AirRobe — fast. We’re reinventing “re-commerce” for a sustainable future.

Our plan: To re-build the rails for re-commerce (aka Circular Commerce) and take over the likes of eBay as the number one second-hand platform to trade pre-owned products.

Our platform is fundamentally changing the way the world interacts with re-commerce.

AirRobe’s vision is a better world powered by circular economies. Our technology works for both consumers and fashion brands: by integrating with fashion retailers we enable them to leverage the benefits of re-commerce, and our peer-to-peer marketplace makes 1-click selling, renting, recycling, discovery and buying preloved fashion seamless and sustainable.

AirRobe’s marketplace lets consumers re-sell, rent, and recycle pre-loved fashion in seconds. Our unique solution has removed the biggest friction in trading used goods: the clunky and slow listing process. For fashion retailers, we provide a seamless way to enter, leverage, and monetise the circular economy, and prevent textiles from ending up in landfill.

We’re doubling down on our first-mover advantage and scaling across Australasia, the US, and Europe, and we’re looking for great people who share our values to shape this journey. It’s also worth mentioning that we are a female-led company and we’re keen to create opportunities for women to be in leadership positions.

What we’re looking for right now:

Because we’re still a small company, right now we’re looking for candidates with particular skill sets. If you don’t quite fit the niche we’re trying to fill then please still reach out! We’re growing and will be looking more broadly in the near future!

Right now we are specifically looking for a Senior Engineer with a backend focus, specifically, a technical expert in our current backend stack (Ruby on Rails).

Being a startup, the role isn’t just a write-code-move-ticket kind of gig. We’re looking for someone who is keen to engage with all facets of building a software platform that makes a positive impact for our customers (both brands and consumers) — even if you don’t have heaps of experience outside your core skill set.

In more concrete terms, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Can operate self-sufficiently on a particular software problem,
  • Is not afraid of digging deeper into understanding a problem before solving it
  • Is able to situationally balance quality, speed and customer impact
  • Taking that further: You consider impact of design decisions from the perspective of the customer, the business and your fellow engineers
  • You can juggle these often-competing priorities and strike the right balance
  • Contributes to key architectural decisions and team processes and you can articulate your rationale behind their decisions to a technical audience, ideally to a non-technical audience as well.
  • You will raise the bar for our team in terms of their backend knowledge and skill set
  • Importantly, you’ll also make significant contributions to our code base.

Why join AirRobe?

  • Your work will have a huge impact, both on the planet and on AirRobe’s growth and success 💥
  • Competitive remuneration and equity package — we’re in this journey together and we want you to own a piece of your successes 💸
  • Although we love a catch-up, we’re fully remote — Work in the environment you want 🌏
  • Accelerate your career in a high-growth, global start-up, with massive opportunity 📈
  • Work in unchartered territory — we’re a disrupter, taking over the likes of eBay 💪
  • Each year 90 million tonnes of fashion textiles head straight to landfill — you’ll be changing this 🌱

What will you do?

  • Solve backend technical problems of the highest scope, complexity, and ambiguity
  • Play a central role in technical contribution
  • Raise the bar of the engineering team through informal coaching, knowledge sharing, and fostering great relationships
  • Assist in key architectural decisions, articulating drawbacks and benefits
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the engineering team
  • Work in close partnership with other functions

Technologies we use

  • Ruby on Rails (this will be your bread and butter. Bonus points if it’s sourdough)
  • React, React Native & Typescript (To stretch a metaphor, this will be your peanut butter. It’s okay if it’s a bit crunchy but if you’re allergic to frontend code then for everyone’s safety lets give it a miss?)
  • MySQL & Postgres, DBT & Snowflake (You don’t need to live and breathe SQL but it’s important that you’re comfortable working with CTEs without getting concussion)
  • Amazon Web Services (Our stack is containerised and deployed on AWS, so DevOps shouldn’t be a dirty word)

Knowledge & skills

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Demonstrable experience in API design and usage (We mostly use GraphQL internally but we maintain and consume public and private external GraphQL & Rest APIs)
  • You love to contribute as an individual to the code base and solve the most complex problems
  • Ownership mindset and a love for autonomy (Able to contribute to improving the processes and systems of work of the engineering team)
  • System architecture and design: Experience designing, documenting, and deploying systems, and being accountable for their improvement, health, monitoring, and maintenance
  • Demonstrable history of writing simple and understandable code over clever but complicated code
  • Great communication skills: able to explain and reason about technical decisions clearly and effectively
  • Thrive in the start-up environment, taking on responsibility and growing at pace

If you’re ready to lead the future of re-commerce, we want to hear from you! Please reach out to work@airrobe.com.

Being in a relatively small team and working on a disruptive global product, your impact in this role could be truly outsized. Above all, we value go-getters with a passion for working in a startup environment.
